Refer a friend bonuses
A referral scheme pays when someone you invite deposits and usually plays through a qualifying amount. The reward is rarely immediate and the conditions apply to both accounts.

The trigger is the friend turnover, not the signup
Almost no scheme pays on registration. The reward triggers after the referred player deposits and stakes a qualifying amount, commonly the value of the deposit several times over. Until that happens, nothing is owed to either side.
This means the reward depends on someone else playing more than they might have intended, which is worth sitting with before sending an invitation.
Both accounts carry conditions
Shared devices, shared IP addresses and shared payment methods routinely void referral rewards, because they are the signature of self-referral. Household members referring each other frequently trip this even when the referral is genuine.
The reward itself usually arrives as bonus funds with wagering rather than as cash, on both sides. Where a scheme pays cash, the terms say so and the amount is normally smaller.
What the operator is buying
A referral reward is an acquisition cost paid to a player instead of to an affiliate, and it is usually smaller than the equivalent commercial rate. That is not unfair, it is the market: a partner brings volume and carries the marketing cost, while a referral brings one person and costs the operator nothing until that person deposits and plays.
Seeing the scheme that way explains every condition on it. The qualifying turnover exists because the operator is paying for a player who stays rather than one who registers. The caps exist because an uncapped scheme becomes a business rather than a promotion.
How the referral is tracked
Either a personal link or a code entered at registration, and the attachment happens at signup or not at all. An invited person who registers directly and adds the code afterwards is usually untracked, with the same technical constraint that applies to a missed promo code at deposit.
Tracking windows are finite as well, commonly 30 days from the click. A friend who signs up two months after following the link is a normal signup as far as the system is concerned, and no support team can retroactively attach a referral that was never recorded.
Caps, stages and expiry
Schemes cap either the number of referrals per period or the total value, and the more generous ones pay in stages: part on the qualifying deposit, the rest after a turnover threshold. Staged rewards frequently expire between stages, which means an invitation that stalls halfway pays only the first part.
The reward itself normally arrives as bonus funds with wagering on both sides, and it inherits the terms of an ordinary bonus: multiplier, base, max bet, expiry. A scheme paying cash says so explicitly, and the amounts in that case are smaller precisely because the money is real.
Same household, same device
Shared devices, shared IP addresses and shared payment methods are the standard signature of self-referral, and they void rewards automatically rather than after review. Couples and flatmates trip this constantly with entirely genuine referrals, and the appeal process is slow because the pattern is indistinguishable from the abuse it was built to catch.
Where the referral is genuine and the household is shared, the honest move is to expect it not to pay and to treat the invitation as an invitation rather than as a transaction. Attempting to work around the detection is account closure territory at every operator, with balances forfeited.
The part that is not about money
This is the only casino promotion whose payout depends on somebody else gambling, and usually gambling more than they intended, since the trigger is a turnover threshold rather than a deposit. That is worth sitting with before sending a link, particularly to someone whose play you have wondered about.
A reasonable line: invite people who already play and would have chosen a site anyway, and let the reward be incidental. If a referral needs persuading, the reward is being paid for persuasion, and that is a different transaction from the one the promotions page describes.
Four things to check before sending the link
What triggers payment, since a deposit trigger and a turnover trigger are different propositions. What the reward actually is, cash or bonus funds with a multiplier. Whether the scheme pays in stages and what expires between them. And what the cap is, per referral and per period.
Those four take a minute to read and they decide whether the scheme is worth any effort at all. A cap of two referrals paying bonus funds at 40x after a turnover threshold is a promotion that will pay very little to almost everyone, and knowing that in advance is better than discovering it after asking a friend to sign up for it.
Refer a friend bonuses: what we like / what could be better
What we like
- Rewards both the referrer and the referred player rather than one side only
- Requires no additional deposit from the referrer
- Some schemes pay recurring rewards on the referred player continued activity
- Conditions are published in full, including the qualifying turnover
What could be better
- Payment depends on someone else depositing and playing through a qualifying amount
- Shared devices, addresses or payment methods routinely void the reward
- Rewards usually arrive as bonus funds with wagering rather than cash
- Inviting people to gamble for a personal reward is worth thinking about on its own terms
Frequently asked questions
When do I get the referral reward?
After the referred player deposits and stakes the qualifying amount, which is set per scheme and is often several times the deposit. Registration alone almost never triggers payment.
Can I refer someone in my household?
Technically often yes, practically often no. Shared devices, IP addresses and payment methods are the standard markers for self-referral, and rewards are voided when they appear.
Is the reward paid as cash?
Usually as bonus funds with wagering. Schemes that pay cash exist and say so explicitly, and the amounts tend to be smaller.
When is the referral paid?
After the referred player deposits and usually after they meet a play threshold. Registration alone almost never triggers it.
Do both people get a bonus?
Normally yes, though the amounts differ and the referrer typically receives more.
Is there a limit on referrals?
Most operators cap the number per period or the total value. The cap sits in the terms.
Can I refer someone in another country?
Only where the operator serves that market. A referral to a jurisdiction the site does not accept pays nothing.
