Free spins offers
Free spins are the easiest offer to price and the easiest to overvalue. Fifty spins means nothing without the spin value, the game they run on, and whether the winnings arrive as cash or as bonus funds.

How to price a spin package in one line
Spin value times spin count gives the stake being gifted. Multiply by the RTP of the named game for the average return. Fifty spins at 20p on a 96.5% slot is £10 of stake returning about £9.65 on average, before any wagering is applied.
That figure is the honest ceiling on what the offer is worth. Everything in the terms below it only reduces the number: wagering, max win caps, game restrictions.
Cash or bonus funds decides everything after
If winnings are paid as cash, the package is worth roughly the figure above and can be withdrawn. If they arrive as bonus funds at 40x, the same package requires £386 of turnover on a £9.65 average win before anything can leave.
The terms always say which, usually in one line near the bottom. It is the first thing worth finding and the last thing most players look for.
The named game is not a detail
Spins are almost always tied to a specific title, chosen by the operator in agreement with the studio. That game decides the volatility of the package: fifty spins on a very high volatility slot will usually return nothing at all, with a small chance of returning a lot.
For a small package, a lower volatility game gives a far more predictable result. Where you have a choice between two offers, the named game matters more than the spin count.
Wagering on spins applies to what you won
Free spin wagering works differently from a deposit match, and the difference favours the player. A match bonus multiplies the bonus amount: £100 at 35x is £3,500 whatever happens next. Spin wagering multiplies the winnings: fifty spins that return £6 at 35x is £210 of turnover, and fifty spins that return nothing carry no requirement at all.
So the multiplier on a spin package is less alarming than the same number on cash, because the base is usually small. Where the terms cap the winnings that can be carried forward, commonly at £50 or £100, that cap is the more important figure of the two.
How spins are credited and how fast they expire
Large packages are usually released in daily instalments: two hundred spins often means twenty a day for ten days, and each instalment carries its own expiry of twenty four or forty eight hours. Miss two days and the spins for those days are gone rather than banked.
That schedule turns a headline number into a commitment. Two hundred spins over ten days is a plan to open the account daily for a week and a half, which is worth recognising before choosing between a large staged package and a smaller one credited at once.
Spins or bonus money on the same deposit
Plenty of welcome offers let you choose. The spins are simpler to value and usually carry the softer terms; the bonus money is larger and comes with a multiplier on the full amount. For a £20 deposit the spin package is normally the better arithmetic, and for a large deposit at low wagering the cash side can win.
The comparison only needs one line each. Spins: value times count times RTP, minus whatever wagering applies to winnings. Cash: bonus amount times multiplier, adjusted for the base and the game weighting. Whichever produces the smaller required turnover for the same expected return is the offer to take.
Why the game is always somebody specific
Spin packages are co-funded. The studio wants its new title in front of players and contributes to the promotion; the operator wants the deposit and contributes the rest. The named game is the part the studio is paying for, which is why it is so often a release from the last few months rather than the most popular title in the lobby.
This is useful rather than sinister. A spin package on a brand new game is a free look at something you have not played, and the studio funding it is the reason the offer exists at all. It also explains why substitutions are never available: the spins are attached to a marketing arrangement for one title, and moving them to another game would mean the wrong party paying for them.
Free spins offers: what we like / what could be better
What we like
- Simple to value: spin count times spin value times the RTP of the named game
- Frequently attached to a small deposit, so the entry cost is low
- Some packages pay winnings as cash with no wagering at all
- A cheap way to see a bonus round on an unfamiliar title without choosing the stake
What could be better
- Spin value is set by the operator and is usually at the low end, 10p to 20p
- Winnings paid as bonus funds carry the full wagering requirement of a cash bonus
- Restricted to a named game, which may be a very high volatility title
- Often expire within 24 to 72 hours of being credited
Frequently asked questions
How much is fifty free spins actually worth?
Spin value times fifty times the RTP of the named game. At 20p on a 96.5% slot that is about £9.65 on average, before wagering. The variance around that average is wide on a high volatility title.
Do free spin winnings need wagering?
It depends on the offer. Some pay cash directly; most credit bonus funds carrying the standard multiplier. The terms state which, usually in a single line.
Can I choose which game to use them on?
Rarely. Spins are tied to a specific title agreed between the operator and the studio, which is why the named game is worth checking before accepting.
What happens to free spins I do not use?
They expire, commonly within 24 to 72 hours of being credited. Unused spins are not compensated and are not usually reissued.
What is the value of a free spin?
Set by the operator, commonly 10p to 20p, and it is not your choice. Fifty spins at 10p is a five pound stake regardless of the game normal bet range.
Do free spin winnings carry wagering?
Usually yes, applied to the winnings rather than to a bonus amount. Where the offer says no wagering, the winnings are cash immediately.
Can I use free spins on any game?
No. They are tied to specific titles, which is part of how the promotion is funded. Substitutions are not available.
