What a game studio actually does
The casino you open an account with does not build the games. It licenses them from suppliers, and the same title appears at dozens of operators because dozens of operators signed with the same studio. That split matters more than it looks: the operator controls your account, your bonus and your withdrawal, while the studio controls the maths.
Suppliers are certified separately from operators: the maths of a game is tested at the studio level, and that certification travels with the title wherever it appears. Lobby line-ups still differ, because each operator signs its own aggregator deals. When a title you have read about is missing from an Australian lobby, this is usually why.
Why the studio tells you more than the casino does
Two operators offering the same game offer the same maths, give or take the RTP build. So once you have chosen where to play, the studio behind a title is what determines how the session actually feels: how long the quiet stretches run, whether the bonus is the whole point, how far the ceiling sits from the average spin.
Studios have house styles, and they are consistent enough to be useful. One builds almost everything around a coin-collection respin; another leans on cascades and rising multipliers; a third ships high ceilings on very high volatility as a matter of course. Knowing which studio made a game tells you roughly what to expect before you open it.
The same game, different return
Most suppliers ship a title in more than one RTP configuration. Identical reels, identical bonus, identical artwork, different return to player. Which build a casino licenses is the operator decision, and it is rarely advertised anywhere the player will see it.
This is the single most useful thing to know about how the industry works, and it is why every game page here records the published figure alongside any alternative builds we have found. Before staking, open the game rules from inside the lobby: the RTP line there describes the version in front of you.
How these pages are built
Each studio page carries figures calculated from the titles we have reviewed, not copied from a press kit. The RTP range shows the spread between the most and least generous game in our catalogue; the volatility figure shows which setting dominates its output; the ceiling is the highest we have recorded.
Where we have not reviewed a studio yet, its page says so plainly instead of reproducing a catalogue listing. A page that lists forty titles with no figures against them answers nothing, and building it would take an afternoon we would rather spend on specifications.
How many studios does one casino actually carry
A mid-sized Australian operator lists between thirty and eighty studios, and a large one passes two hundred. That number is easy to advertise and tells you almost nothing: the tail is made of studios with three or four titles each, licensed through an aggregator rather than chosen.
What matters is which studios carry weight in the lobby. Five or six names supply most of the games people actually play, and if those five are missing, a library of two thousand titles is two thousand titles you will not open twice.
The pages here are ordered by how many of a studio titles we have reviewed, which is a proxy for how often the studio appears in Australian lobbies rather than a ranking of quality.
Big studio or small: what changes for the player
Large studios ship in volume and test in volume: their maths is conservative, the RTP sits close to the market median, and the top prize is usually reachable through a feature rather than through a jackpot. Predictability is the product.
Small studios compete by being different, and that shows up in the numbers. Extreme ceilings, unusual grids, mechanics nobody else licences. The variance is genuinely higher, and so is the chance the title has been in live lobbies for a few weeks rather than a few years.
Neither is better. What matters is knowing which one you are opening, and the facts panel on every studio page states it in figures rather than adjectives.
How to read a studio page here
Start with the RTP range. A studio publishing everything between 96.0% and 96.6% builds to a standard; a studio spanning 94% to 97% leaves the choice to the operator, and the individual game matters far more than the name on it.
Then the win ceiling next to the volatility rating. A large ceiling on a calm game is largely theoretical: the maths that fund a big top prize have to thin out ordinary wins somewhere, and if the volatility says otherwise, the ceiling is decoration.
Then the mechanic count. A studio repeating one mechanic across most of its catalogue has a house style you either like or do not, and knowing that saves opening six titles to discover they play identically.
Licensing, certification and what it means for fairness
Studios supplying operators serving Australia hold their own the licensing register licence as software suppliers, separate from the operator one. Their random number generators are tested by independent laboratories, and the published RTP has to match what the certified build actually returns.
That is why the fairness question has a boring answer: within licensed supply, outcomes are not adjustable by the casino, and a studio caught deviating loses the licence that lets it sell anywhere. The commercial incentive runs the same direction as the rule.
What is adjustable is which certified build the operator licences, and studios routinely ship several at different RTPs. The rules screen inside the game names the version in front of you, and it is the only figure that describes the game you are actually playing.

Does the studio or the casino decide the RTP?
The studio builds the maths and usually ships several configurations. The casino chooses which one to license. Check the game rules inside the lobby to see the version you are playing.
Are all these studios available at Australian online casinos?
No. Each operator signs its own deals with studios and aggregators, so line-ups differ from lobby to lobby. When a title covered in an international review is missing from a given lobby, the studio is simply not on that operator’s contract.
Why do some studio pages have no games?
Because we have not reviewed their titles yet. Rather than reproduce a catalogue listing with no figures against it, the page says so and waits until we have specifications from the source.
Who actually makes the Big Bass games?
